Ohio bathtub cleaning

When you buy a bathtub, it's all nice and shiny.

The dirt doesn't stick, and it's easy to clean. However, after a period of use, the shiny finish is lost, and pores open up.

The dirt gets stuck in the pores, and suddenly, it's not so easy to clean it up anymore.

You find that you need to use scrubbing agents to get the grime off completely, as well as a de-greaser.

The trick is to make sure you have the right ingredients first. Many people swear by different types of brushes, and you will have to find one that suits you.

If you don't mind bending over too much, you can use a short handled brush, and if you need to be careful, you can get a long handled one.

You will most certainly need a good pair of gloves.

The detergents and degreasers can be harmful to your skin, and a pair of thick heavy gloves will protect your hands from them. It's not so important to have them fit correctly though.

Finally, decide on what liquid you are going to use to clean it. You will want to have a mixture of detergent, and degreaser for this job, if you have heavy grime like the one in the picture.
Also, ensure that ventilation isn't an issue.

The fumes that can be released can be pretty heavy. This is doubly important if you are using an acid to clean it. The fumes can get rather thick, and the sensitive lining of your nose will get damaged if you inhale them. Bet you never thought cleaning a bathtub could be so dangerous.

Once this is set up, you can begin the work of cleaning. Plug the drainage hole, so that you don't end up blocking the sewage system with the grime. Using the hand shower (if you have one), wet the entire tub first. Of course, if you don't have a hand shower, you'll have to use a mug. This will make it easier for your to start with the cleaning.

If you're using a spray, use it all over the bathtub, or apply it all over with your brush, if you're using one. Let it set in for 15 minutes or so. Then rinse it off by scrubbing gently.

You might have mildew (fungus) on your bathtub that can cause it to discolor, and so you can use a tile cleaner to get this off. You will see that special focus needs to be applied to the edges of the tub called a 'bathtub ring', and the corners, as well as the area around the drain. Get touch stains off using an old toothbrush.

By cleaning your bathtub like this, you should be able to use it for another 2 weeks before it needs cleaning again. If you don't feel like going through all the hassle (and a bathtub is just the beginning), you might want to consider having a professional come over, and clean it up for you on a regular basis. They will do a better job than you, and will do it faster with specialized tools as well.
