Ohio Carpet Stains

No one likes a stained carpet, and even though modern carpets are designed to withstand stains much more than their predecessors, it's unlikely that you will be able to remain stain free for any substantial period of time.

The difficulty in cleaning a carpet stain lies in the fact that most detergents and bleaches ruin the color of the carpet. In addition, you want to avoid damaging the fibers as much as possible.

Also, due to the close proximity of the carpet fibers to each other, stains tend to spread quickly.

Let us divide stains into liquid, semi-solid, and solid. Actually, there are dozens of different types of stains and each necessitates a different response. Call in a professional if you feel that you'll damage your carpet.

Controlled water is the first line of defense you have against carpet stains.

If your stains respond well to water, then you're in luck. If, however, you find that water is not doing the trick, follow the suggestions below.

For liquid stains, first take a clean white paper napkin, and press onto the stain. The idea is to first soak up as much of the stain as possible without damaging the carpet, or rubbing the stain in further.

After that, pour some water onto the stain, and blot once again. Repeat the procedure until you feel that the stain is gone. Remember, don't scrub!

If water isn't doing the trick, try a solvent. Make sure that the solvent can't harm your carpet by testing it out on an inconspicuous corner first.

Wet a cloth with the solvent, and, and apply it from the outside to the inside of the stain, so that you won't spread it. Repeat this procedure, making sure that you blot out the solvent as quickly as possible.

For Semi-solids, the procedure is much the same, with the exception that you need to remove as much of the material as possible with a spoon first.

For solid residue, vacuum the are after breaking up the solid as much as possible. Then rinse with cold water, and blot dry.

An alternative for both dry and wet stains, is to first vacuum the area to get whatever you can out first, then rinse and vacuum again. Some feel that this is more efficient that blotting dry.

Quickly drying out the carpet is important, as it can help prevent the spread of stains that are at the bottom, to the top. You can use a bunch of paper napkins, and have a heavy object press down on it to facilitate drying.
